Security, Access Control & CCTV Technician (Onsite)

Job Description

This position is based onsite in downtown Oklahoma City, OK, with occasional travel to additional locations in north OKC and Edmond.

Work Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM)
  • Extended hours as needed during weekdays
  • Occasional weekend work based on business requirements

APMEX is seeking a skilled and dedicated Security Systems Technician to support the IT department with the management, maintenance, and optimization of physical security systems across multiple facilities.

This role involves working with video surveillance, access control, alarm systems, and network-based security infrastructure supporting manufacturing, fulfillment, and corporate environments.


Key Responsibilities

Security Systems Management

  • Manage daily operations of physical security systems including CCTV, VMS, access control, and alarm systems
  • Install, configure, maintain, and repair surveillance cameras, access control devices, and alarm components
  • Upgrade and improve system performance and efficiency across multiple sites
  • Replace and troubleshoot security hardware and system components

Technical & IT Support

  • Collaborate with IT, security teams, vendors, and consultants for system deployment and upgrades
  • Troubleshoot network devices, servers, and infrastructure related to security systems
  • Manage VMS/NVR platforms, user roles, permissions, and system configurations
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network issues

Documentation & Planning

  • Maintain system documentation, SOPs, blueprints, and floor plans
  • Create upgrade proposals and technical improvement plans
  • Use tools like Visio to design layouts and system diagrams
  • Follow change management procedures and update system records

Installation & Field Work

  • Install and route cabling (S/UTP, single-strand, composite cables) for access control systems
  • Work with low-voltage wiring systems, troubleshooting and repairs
  • Operate in confined spaces, elevated areas, ladders, and outdoor environments
  • Lift and handle equipment weighing 30–50 lbs regularly

Security Operations Support

  • Monitor and respond to security system alerts and alarms
  • Assist in emergency response coordination when required
  • Train staff on system usage including security and metal detection equipment
  • Ensure compliance with safety and security standards

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in security systems (CCTV, Access Control, VMS, or alarms)
  • Strong knowledge of Video Management Systems (VMS) and NVR platforms
  • Understanding of access control systems and security infrastructure
  • Experience with low-voltage wiring and installation
  • Basic knowledge of IP networking and server systems
  • Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams and floor plans
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with vendors and teams

Education Requirements

  • Two-year technical degree or equivalent apprenticeship
  • Or relevant hands-on industry experience

Certifications (Preferred)

  • Driver’s License (Required)
  • Alarm Technician / Alarm Manager certification (Oklahoma Department of Labor preferred)
  • Low Voltage Certification (Preferred)

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry equipment (30–50 lbs)
  • Comfortable working on ladders, scaffolding, and confined spaces
  • Ability to perform repetitive cable installation work
  • Able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to kneel, crouch, or crawl during installations and maintenance tasks
