Position Summary
The Security Specialist is responsible for supporting school security operations and providing technical guidance to administrative and security staff. The role also includes training school personnel on safety procedures and security practices to maintain a safe and secure learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor security systems, including alarm panels, surveillance cameras, and scanners
- Prevent and detect criminal activity, safety risks, and policy violations
- Enforce parking rules and district regulations
- Respond to incidents promptly and report all violations accurately while maintaining professionalism
- Conduct routine patrols to identify unauthorized individuals
- Ensure campus buildings and surrounding areas remain secure throughout the shift
- Prepare clear, accurate, and detailed incident reports
- Collaborate with site administrators to address and resolve security issues
- Train staff on proper operation of alarm systems and safety procedures
- Assist in handling or detaining violators when necessary, following legal and ethical standards
- Escort or remove unauthorized individuals in a lawful and professional manner
- Follow all district policies and complete additional assigned duties
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED (required)
- Minimum age: 21 years
- Previous experience in security or law enforcement (preferred)
- Ability to remain calm and maintain control in high-pressure situations
- Proficiency in operating security systems and equipment
- Strong report-writing and documentation skills
- Ability to work respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Effective communication skills with students, staff, parents, and the community
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Compliance with uniform and grooming standards
- Flexibility to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and public relations skills
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
- Manual dexterity for computer use and data entry
- Ability to read screens and printed materials (with or without visual aids)
- Ability to hear and communicate clearly in various environments
- Physical mobility including bending, stooping, walking, climbing stairs, and reaching
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds
